Summit Photofix SP5

Rating: 2.5/5 ★★½☆☆

Price £97.99

The Summit Photofix sp5 is promoted as being a stand-alone but be aware that without buying a separate adaptor the battery will need to be charged via USB. Having said that, it is a good little scanner that once charged will scan straight to SD card from anywhere with its 2.3in colour screen and lithium battery.

The bundled software is not the best and the lack of flexibility in the software and hardware give fewer options for modifying images but scan quality is decent providing 1800dpi (3600dpi through Interpolation). Another point to bear in mind is that the model is very similar to a few slightly cheaper scanners produced by other manufacturers, so make sure you check out others in the “basic scanners” category. All in all a standard specification for a home project slide scanner, which will do what it says, simply scan slides to an SD card without any fuss.
