Epson Perfection V750 Pro Flatbed Scanner

Rating: 4.5/5 ★★★★½

slide scanner

Price £669

The Epson V750 pro is a high end flatbed scanner that boasts an exceptional image processing resolution not only for scans with traditional film media but also for its handling of transparent slide and negative media of various sizes.

While it’s generally recommended to favor a dedicated slide scanner for high end scanning, the V750 pro and its little brother the V700 give even the top end dedicated scanners a run for their money when it comes to quality; packing a punch well above its price tag.

Both models come with almost identical hardware (the V750 also includes an anti-reflective lens coating) operating a dual lens system which selects the appropriate lens according to the desired resolution and media type. It’s this system along with Epsons arrangement of CCD sensors that provide optical resolutions of a very impressive 6400dpi.  Along with this the product boasts a very high VMAX (measure of detail within dark areas) of 4 giving darker scans clarity and depth. The integration of Digital ICE works well at removing dust and scratches, adding a little time to the scan period but saving much post editing.

A great advantage of the large flatbed design is the flexibility to accept a wide variety of media. The bed size of 8×12 inches can be used to scan any large film material, but it comes with holders for many common film types from 35mm film strip to 4×5 inch flat film making the product a good choice for someone with a varied collection to scan.

The Bundled Epson scan software includes its own version of colour correction and dust removal software which do leave a bit to be desired. While both models come with adobe elements The V700 comes with Laser soft SilverFast SE6 whereas the V750 comes with SilverFast Ai6 and Monaco EZ colour, which is really the main difference between the two.

While the V700 can scan at a dazzling resolution, if you are serious about getting the highest quality results the upgrade to Silverfast Ai software bundled with the V750 is recommended; the program is highly regarded by many for its ability to squeeze the most out of scans enhancing the image to the highest level of quality.
